geography

Pessenburgheim is located north of Holzheim in the valley of the Kleine Paar on the plateau of the Lower Lechrain of the Aindlinger terrace staircase . In terms of natural space, it belongs to the Donau-Iller-Lech-Platte , which in turn is part of the Alpine foothills , one of the main natural spatial units in Germany . The Bastlmühle is east of Pessenburgheim, the Wickesmühle south of it.

history

Pessenburgheim was first mentioned in 1241 as Burchheim Superior and in 1280 as Oberpurheim . It was not until 1473 and 1497 that the present-day form almost appeared as Bössenpurckheim , which meant something like Minderes Burgheim in contrast to the much larger and more important Burgheim . The "castle" mentioned in the place name must be a Graisbacher castle that has not yet been identified and formed the administrative center of the many possessions of this family in the area: in Oberbaar , Echsheim , Stadel and Obernpurchheim . In 1342 the Graisbach ownership passed to the Wittelsbach family . The gentlemen von Sandizell and Gumppenberg also owned Pessenburgheim.
The Catholic Church of St. Willibald is a branch church of the parish of the Assumption of Mary in Holzheim and was mainly built in the 14th century.
Until 30 June 1972, the independent municipality Pessenburgheim belonged with its districts to district Neuburg an der Donau and then in the course of administrative reform in Bavaria the district of Donau-Ries , who until May 1, 1973, the name of the district Nördlingen-Donauwörth wore slammed . Pessenburgheim was incorporated into the municipality of Holzheim on May 1, 1978.
