Battalion is a Belgian death metal band from Stabroek that was formed in 2001.
history
The band was formed in December 2001. After three months they released their first demo called Warstorm in 2002. In June 2003 the band released the next demo called Nuclear Devastation . As a result, the band increased their notoriety, making them appearances with Avulsed , Legion of the Damned , In-Quest and Suhrim achieved.
In 2004 the band recorded their debut album Winter Campaign at CCR Studios in Zulte , Belgium. The band released the album the following year. In 2006 the band reached a contract with Shiver Records and also got a new bassist in Kristof Hectors. In the same year they also recorded two new songs in the CCR Studios. In May 2007 the band recorded two more new songs. In the same month drummer Tom Van Oosterwijck left the group and was replaced by Erre Schellekens. From September 2007 to January 2008 the band recorded a new album. The album was mixed and mastered at CCR Studios. Welcome to the Warzone was released in April 2008 through Shiver Records. In order to promote the album, several appearances followed with Grave , Asphyx , Amon Amarth and Vader . The band also performed in Germany with Aborted and Vital Remains . Meanwhile, Igor Duerloo, a new guitarist, joined the band.
In 2010 the band made two demo recordings, played concerts and wrote pieces for the next album. The band also split from drummer Erre Schellekens. He was replaced by Kevin De Leener ( Emeth ).
style
The band plays technically sophisticated, classic death metal, which is compared to other bands like Pestilence , Possessed , Asphyx, Gorefest , Bolt Thrower , Morbid Angel , Vader and Malevolent Creation . In addition, some passages can also be compared with Kataklysm and Aborted's older works .
