In the course of the municipal reorganization, the settlement was incorporated into Heinsberg on January 1, 1972.

Chapel - interior view

The small chapel in Baumen belongs to the parish of St. Mariae Himmelfahrt in Uetterath. It already existed before the Second World War, but was destroyed during the war years and not rebuilt. Only the historical sculpture of St. Cecilia from the 18th century survived the destruction and is now in the Heinsberg local history museum. In 1983 the residents of the village decided to build a new crossroads in place of the destroyed chapel. The reconstruction finally took place in 2010. The new chapel was consecrated on July 17, 2010.

The chapel has a square floor plan and is made of brick. It has a gable roof covered with plain tiles and an entrance door made of wrought iron. Above the door there is a figure niche, the year and a gable cross. Inside there is a crucifix as well as several figures attached to the walls. The figure of Mary standing on the altar is a private donation from the Marien pilgrimage site in Ophoven .
