Bayawan City (in Tagalog Lungsod ng Bayawan and in Cebuano Dakbayan sa Bayawan ) is a Component City in the province of Negros Oriental on the island of Negros in the Philippines . It has 117,900 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who lived in 28 barangays . She belongs to the 2nd income bracket of the communities in the Philippines. 83% of the area is designated as rural, 14.7% as partially urbanized and 2.3% as urban. The city received the title of Component City on December 23, 2000.
It is located about 102 km northwest of Dumaguete City , the journey time is about two and a half hours by bus, by car about two hours. Their neighboring communities are Santa Catalina in the south, Basay in the west, Tanjay City in the southeast, Bais City in the east and Mabinay in the north. The narrow coastal strip in the southwest has a length of 15 km and lies on the Sulu Sea . In the northwest it borders on Kabankalan City in the province of Negros Occidental . The area of the municipality of 699.08 km² corresponds to approx. 13% of the total area of the province of Negros Oriental. The topography of the municipality is described as hilly to mountainous.
