Geographical location

The Bayerhof is located in the extreme south-east of the Schonungen municipality. To the north, the federal highway 303 runs past the farm, further north is Waldsachsen, with which the Bayerhof shares the district. To the east begins with Gädheim - Greßhausen the district Haßberge , also in the south of this district begins with Ottendorf , which also belongs to Gädheim. The so-called Forster Erbholz, a forest department, occupies the west. Behind it lies the village of Forst some distance away .

history

The origin of the name Bayerhof is unclear. Perhaps Count Arnold von Andechs brought Bavarian colonists to the Main in the 11th century when he married Gisela von Schweinfurt . The Bayerhof was first mentioned in a document as "Beyere" in 1257 as part of the Würzburg Monastery . It was economically important because it was at the intersection of two elevated roads. In 1368 the farm was called "Beyern" as a hamlet.

After several changes of ownership in the Middle Ages and in the early modern period, Baron von Dungern-Dehren came into possession of the Bayerhof in 1864. He had the buildings that still existed in the 20th century, a castle-like building and several utility buildings, erected. In 1912 the Bayerhof came to the family of Count Friedrich von Ortenburg , who still own the property today and had the burial place built there. In 1984 the mansion was demolished.
