Geographical location

Forst is located two kilometers southeast of Schonungen, seven kilometers east of Schweinfurt and one kilometer from the Main on the southern slope of the main valley edge, about 70 m above the river ( 284  m above sea  level ). This exposed location means that in addition to the old town center, numerous new buildings have been built. The expansion took place mainly to the west in the direction of Schonungen.

history

coat of arms

The first documentary mention of Forst is attested in 1183. The village formed part of the Reichsvogtei Schweinfurt and came with this as an imperial fief to the Counts of Henneberg. The Lords of Wenkheim also played an important role for Forst . In the Markgräflerkrieg in 1553 (looting) and in the Thirty Years' War ("corrupted") the place had to endure severe suffering. The new, modern school building, built in 1957/58, is no longer required for the elementary school and is rented to the Kolping Society for training purposes .
