Bavaria-Dusel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bayern-Dusel (from Dusel , i.e. undeserved luck ) is a popular football myth in Germany. It refers to FC Bayern Munich , the most successful club in the German Bundesliga , and states that the team is often particularly lucky in tight games. The term originated in the 1970s, which was particularly successful for the club, is used as a catchphrase by fans and clubs of its competitors and is widespread in today's media football coverage. As a popular saying is Bayern-luck also applied with respect to other clubs.

Use in the media

The German-language media have been talking about Bayern-Dusel since 2001 at the latest. He is regularly assigned attributes such as "typical", "proverbial", "famous", "legendary", "feared", "unbelievable", "monstrous", "lurking" and "eternal", as well as the "power of myth" spoken. Not only games that Bayern decide in their favor, but also supposed luck in cup competition draws are declared with the Bayern-Dusel. Also in the Swiss media was diagnosed after a narrow final minute victory of Munich over FC Basel of Bayern-Dusel. In a New Year's article published in 2011 in the Austrian newspaper Die Presse , the author expressed the hope that with the new national team coach Marcel Koller , the Austrian national team would now have someone "who could stop this unbearable Bayern fuss, which the DFB team also has".

Theoretical consideration

Many scientific studies and statistical experts have dealt with the subject. For example Prof. Dr. Christian Hesse Ph. D. (Harvard), he teaches mathematics and statistics at the University of Stuttgart and has advised the German Bundestag and the Federal Constitutional Court on mathematical and statistical issues, or the economics professor Dr. Eberhard Feess, Professor of Managerial Economics at the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Dr. Helge Müller from the Public Economics Group at the Philipps University of Marburg and Frankfurt School graduate Paul Bose, as well as the company Opta, the world's leading provider of live sports data. Their scientific surveys, carried out independently of one another, show that the Bayern dud in referee decisions has a statistically proven equivalent in a clear advantage for FC Bayern Munich.

The thesis is also put forward that the Bavarian dud is based on a preferential treatment of Bavaria by the German Football Association (DFB) in general and by referees in particular. In this context, there is also talk of a Bayern bonus . It is assumed that due to the great influence of the financially strong and opinionated FC Bayern Munich, the DFB sometimes does not dare to make tough decisions against the club, which then leads to premature obedience in the case of individual officials of this association - such as the respective referee teams Evaluation of specific game situations. It has been scientifically proven that a Bayern bonus actually exists.

In the specialist publication “Management for the Champions League : What we can learn from professional football”, the Bayern dud is described as a direct result of the self-confidence that is “instilled” into the players at FC Bayern. Management consultant and sports philosopher Reinhard K. Sprenger takes a similar view . When asked how the “decades-long Bayern dud” came about, Sprenger replied in a newspaper interview: “From about the 85th minute, the Bayern players' enormous confidence in success comes into play. And to the same extent it shrinks with the opponents. FC Bayern manages to stimulate this myth of confidence in success again and again. "

The sports psychologist and former professional footballer Philipp Laux stated in an interview that the decisive factor for the game is “not a fool, but the belief that you can still win every game at any point in time. This conviction, which is very pronounced here [at FC Bayern], has something to do with expectations and the goals that the club sets and with which the players identify. "

Assessment by FC Bayern

Players and managers at FC Bayern react differently to the mention of the Bayern dudgeon. The long-time captain and goalkeeper of FC Bayern, Oliver Kahn , said after a victory in the last minutes of the game over Hannover 96 , which ensured a preliminary decision in the 2004/2005 title fight: “Based on the tradition of FC Bayern we have good nerves. There is no luck, you have to force it. ” After a narrow victory over Hamburger SV in February 2004, Bastian Schweinsteiger commented self-deprecatingly:“ The Bayern dud is back! ” Felix Magath also just barely explained during his time as Bayern coach decisive game: "If you score another goal in the 90th minute, that's just the famous Bayern dumbass." However, members of FC Bayern sometimes react thinly to it. Uli Hoeneß , who was asked in 2008 by a reporter from the club's own “FCB TV”, whether a narrow 1-0 win against Karlsruher SC could be attributed to Bayern-Dusel , responded with the words: “You need someone else Look for a job."
