Sven Voelpel

Sven Constantin Voelpel (born October 13, 1973 in Munich ) is a German professor of business administration at the Department of Business & Economics at Jacobs University in Bremen and founding director of the WISE demography network.

Life

From 1993 to 1999 Voelpel studied economics and social sciences (bac. Oec.), Business administration (Dipl.-Kfm.) And socio-economics (Dipl. Oec.) At the University of Augsburg , the University of Westminster in London and at Harvard University ( USA) and the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). In 2002 he received his PhD oec. HSG. Between 2002 and 2008 he worked and studied as a postgraduate at Harvard University, Oxford University (United Kingdom) and Harvard Business School (USA). He taught and researched as associate professor from 2003 to 2004 at the University of Groningen (Netherlands) and in 2004 at the Department of Strategy and Management at the NHH - Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (Norway).

Since 2004 Voelpel has been Professor for Business Administration at the School for Humanities and Social Sciences (until 2011 Jacobs Center on Lifelong Learning and Institutional Development) at Jacobs University Bremen . Since 2003 he has held a professorship for business administration at the Business School Netherlands International (Netherlands) and was appointed permanent visiting professor at the University of St. Gallen in 2009 and associate professor for strategy, leadership and innovation at the EBS Business School, EBS University of Economics and law in Wiesbaden.

Since 2013 he has held visiting professorships in business administration at the Department of Business Administration at the School of Economics, Business Administration and Accounting of the University of Sao Paulo (USP) and the Universidade Federal da Bahia of Bahia in Salvador, Brazil.

Voelpel researched and taught with visiting professorships at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo (Japan) in 2003, from 2003 to 2004 at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) in India and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, and from 2004 at CEIBS - China Europe International Business School (China) (2004), from 2004 to 2005 at the Tsinghua University in Beijing, 2007 at the Insead in Fontainebleau near Paris and in 2013 at the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) of the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).

With his book Decide for yourself how old you are , published in 2016 , Voelpel achieved a bestseller that made it to number 6 bestseller list non-fiction paperback.

Work areas

Voelpel deals with the topics of strategy, organization, innovation, leadership, team effectiveness, knowledge and change management. Demographic change and diversity management . He contributed to these areas of knowledge with more than 200 publications in books and scientific journals. He advises and lectures for board members and executives of numerous DAX companies, as well as public broadcasters such as ARD and ZDF or Deutschlandradio . In these areas he contributes to the transfer of knowledge from science to society with articles in newspapers such as the FAZ, SZ and Zeit, appearances on the radio such as B. Deutschlandradio, NDR and WDR as well as television such as Münchner Runde and Mittagsmagazin .

In 2003 Voelpel founded the WISE (Wisdom - Innovation - Strategy - Energy) Group, of which he is still President today. In 2007, the WDN - WISE Demography Network was founded, which he heads as director. Since it was founded, he has been a faculty member of the Bremen International School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS), the graduate college funded in the competition of the Excellence Initiative of the German Research Foundation (DFG), as well as initiator of the Double Doctoral Program at Jacobs University and VU University Amsterdam .
