The Bechthaler Weiher is located in the eponymous place Bechthal , a district of the Raitenbuch municipality in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia .
The still water is located about 300 meters as the crow flies east of the center of Bechthal in the valley of the Anlauter , which runs south-east here and which flows close to its south side and with which it has several connections. The pond is also fed by springs in the vicinity. In the north and south there are mountains of the Franconian Alb ; In the south, less than three hundred meters away, on an eastern spur of the right slope of the valley, stands the Bechthal castle ruins .
The approximately one hectare large and from west to east about two hundred meters long body of water was created in the course of land consolidation in 1977 and rehabilitated in 2007. A local fishing company maintains and manages the water, which is stocked with carp , pikeperch and tench .
Because it is on the edge of the region of the Franconian Lake District , which is developing in terms of tourism, more and more people are bathing in the pond. There are several parking and tent sites in the area.
