background
Beds Are Burning is a political song about the return of land to the Pintupi , an Australian Aboriginal tribe. The strain was not discovered in the Gibson Desert until the 1930s , followed by forcible evictions to the Papunya settlement in the 1950s and 1960s because their habitat was contaminated by nuclear weapons as a result of nuclear weapons tests with the Blue Streak missiles . In 1981 it returned to its origins, where the tribesmen founded the Kintore settlement .
At the 2000 Summer Olympics , Midnight Oil played the song at the graduation ceremony, dressed all in black and with the white words " sorry " on the shirts and " SORRY " on the pants. The music project 1,000 Days, 1,000 Songs published the title on its website in March 2017 as a protest against the policies of US President Donald Trump .
