Belén de Andamarca is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Belén de Andamarca is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Belén de Andamarca in the province of Sud Carangas . The village is located at an altitude of 3835  m, almost fifty kilometers west of Lake Poopó on the Bolivian highlands.

Belén de Andamarca is located on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano and west of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central . The region is characterized by a distinct daytime climate , in which the mean temperature fluctuations between day and night are greater than in the average course of the year.

The mean average temperature of the region is just under 9 ° C (see climate diagram Pampa Aullagas) and fluctuates between 4 ° C in June and July and 11 ° C in the summer months from November to March. The annual precipitation is less than 300 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to November with monthly precipitation under 15 mm, and a maximum of 75 mm in January.

Belén de Andamarca is located at a distance of 136 kilometers by road southwest of Oruro , the capital of the department.

The 279 kilometer long highway Ruta 12 leads through Toledo, which leads from Pisiga on the Chilean border in a north-easterly direction via Sabaya , Huachacalla , Ancaravi to Toledo and on to the capital Oruro. From Toledo, unpaved slopes run south over the wide plains of Lake Poopó to Andamarca , from there it is another sixteen kilometers west to Belén de Andamarca .
