The siege of Maastricht took place from April to May 1748 during the War of the Austrian Succession . A French army under the command of the Maréchal de Saxe besieged and captured the fortified Dutch-Liège city during the last months of the campaign in the Netherlands. After a relatively long siege, the Maastricht garrison had to surrender and was given free retreat with all military honors. Maastricht was given back with the conclusion of the Treaty of Aachen in October of the same year.
