The Belaya ( Russian Белая , "The White" also Большая Белая / Bolshaya Belaya , Great Belaya, "The Great White"; Buryat Ехэ Бүлэн / Jexe Buelen) is a left tributary of the Angara in the Republic of Buryatia and the Irkutsk Oblast in southern Siberia .
The Belaja has its origin in the Eastern Sayan at an altitude of over 2000 m. From there it flows mainly in an easterly direction through the mountains. It takes up the right tributaries Urik and Malaja Belaja ( Ма́лая Бе́лая , Kleine Belaja, "The little white one" ). After 359 km it reaches the Angara north of Usolye-Sibirskoje . The catchment area of the Belaja covers around 18,000 km². The mean discharge (MQ) 22 km above the mouth is 181 m³ / s. The river is ice-covered between the end of October and the end of April.
