She secretly loves her boss, who takes full advantage of her devotion and uses Bella for himself beyond the employment relationship. Together with his friend Ramon Delgado, he enjoys his life and tells his current girlfriend, the medical student Jasmin Kramer, that he is married in order to prevent her from making plans for a marriage. When Ramon tries to talk him out of Bella as an office assistant, he refuses, however, amazed, because he knows exactly what he has in her.

When Berger goes on a bike excursion with Jasmin in the Mallorcan mountains, it exhausts him more than he wants to admit. During a rest, the young woman confesses to him that she doesn't always want to be in second place and will therefore part with him. Since he doesn't want to lose Jasmin, he tells her that he and his wife are already living in divorce. Since Jasmin thinks that men would always say that in such a case, he replies to her surprise that his wife should just tell her that herself. After Jonas only receives rejection from his ex-girlfriends when he suggests they play his wife for a short time, he falls for Bella, who is loyal to him.

At his invitation, Bella appears with dyed hydrogen-blonde hair and dressed strikingly. When he asks her to play his wife for a day, she says that she really would do anything for him, but he should please keep her out of this story. Shortly afterwards, she goes to a hairdresser who will restore her original hair color and change her hair. Although she rejected Jonas' requests, Bella pretends to be his wife to Jasmin when she happens to see the student on the street on the other day. When Jasmin later told Jonas about it on the golf course, he was completely surprised. She also talks about her suspicion that she believes his wife still loves him. He then tells her that his wife has cheated on him again and again, even if you don't look at it. He later blames Bella for improper behavior towards Jasmin. A new meeting is arranged to which Bella wants to bring her neighbor Lutz Finke with her to play her lover. However, Finke is stopped by an incident and asks Bella to take care of his sons Tim and Tom. So it happens that Bella shows up with the children at Berger's. Jonas bribes the boys and instructs them not to show themselves. When Ramon happens to show up at Jonas' house, he is chosen to act as Bella's lover. During the evening there are various misunderstandings, Jasmin runs into one of the boys and Ramon's friend Corinna appears in the villa.

It's not the first time that Berger and Jasmin have noticed that they have different ideas about what they enjoy. That evening there is a serious rift between the two of them. Bella finds Jasmin sitting on the street in front of her apartment. The young woman is pretty drunk. In her apartment, Jasmin asks Bella if she still loves Jonas, in any case Jonas looked at her like his golf club and he loves him more than anything.

Before Bella goes to the practice the next morning, she happily notices that her fig tree, which has been wasting until then, is bearing fruit on the balcony. When Jasmin later wakes up, she finds a card on the fig tree: “From Dr. Berger - for Bella Sommer. To good cooperation. ”Lukas Finke helps Jasmin out of the apartment and they both get closer. A clarifying conversation takes place between Bella and Jasmin.

The dentist has now realized that he loves Bella and so he rings her doorbell and then, since she doesn't answer, her neighbor Lukas Finke. There, to his great surprise, Jasmin opens for him. Lukas says Bella is probably on her boat, the Corazón. There he also finds her and calls over to her that he loves her and as proof he jumps from the rock into the water, although he cannot swim. Bella has to save him. “What would I do without you,” he says, not for the first time before he kisses her.

criticism

TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs to the side) and said: "While even the purr from 1969 is still charming today, a lot of it looks old-fashioned here - despite the playful actors (Max Tidof, Marcus Mittermeier and others)" and came to the conclusion: " Capricorns of love among finca residents ”.

The TV magazine Gong believed that "the idea was not new and the film was predictable" but had "a number of nice, unexpected surprises". "The whole cast of actors [can] see the pleasure in the game." The film received four out of six points, which corresponds to the rating "good". The summary read: "Neubauer shines through its versatility."

The television magazine Hörzu awarded one of three points for humor and emotion and the overall rating “acceptable”. The critic of the Hörzu referred to the "French play that was adapted for Broadway and made into the film that brought Goldie Hawn the Oscar in 1970 [...] and is silly messed up here in Mallorca".

Tilmann P. Gangloff judged for tittelbach.tv : “'Bella and the fig tree' is almost a gem in the long Neubauer-Ziegler-Degeto story, which derives many unexpected moments from a manageable & predictable plot. The romantic comedy scores with its loving details, it has a lot of humor and great pleasure in playing. A Friday film that is well worth seeing, with punchy dialogues, good-humored actors [...], beautiful locations. "
