Belsazar de la Motte Hacquet , also Balthasar or Balthazar Hacquet , (* 1739/1740 in Le Conquet , Bretagne ; † January 10, 1815 in Vienna ) was a versatile scientist. Its botanical author abbreviation is “ Hacq. "

Life

He studied in Paris , was professor of anatomy in Laibach from 1773 , professor of natural history in Lemberg from 1787 and of chemistry and botany in Cracow from 1805 . In 1777 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina and in 1787 a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .

During his time in Ljubljana he attempted the first ascent of Triglav - even if he did not reach the summit himself, he supported the team of the first climbers - and is considered one of the first mountaineers .

Honors

The genus Hacquetia from the umbelliferous plant family ( Apiaceae ) is named after him .
