Bely Jar ( Russian Белый Яр ) is an urban-type settlement in Tomsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 7,996 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The settlement is located in the southeast of the West Siberian lowlands , about 300 km northeast of the Oblast capital Tomsk , on the Ket River , a right tributary of the Ob .

Byely Jar is the administrative center of the Rajons Verkhniaya Ket ( Upper Ket ).

The place has a pier on the Ket and is the end point of the railway line from Taiga via Tomsk, which was extended by Assino in 1973 .

history

The village of Bely Yar was founded around 1930, became the administrative center of the Rajon in 1939 and received urban-type settlement status in 1964 when the construction of the railway line from Assino began.
