Streschewoi ( Russian Стрежевой ) is a city in Tomsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 42,219 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian lowlands , about 930 km northwest of the Oblast capital Tomsk , on the right arm Possal ( Russian Пасол ) of the Ob .
The city of Streschewoi is administratively directly subordinate to the oblast. It is surrounded by the territory of Alexandrovskoye Raion, to which it does not belong.
Streschewoi has an airport and a ship landing stage on the Ob. The city is about 70 kilometers north-west in the neighboring autonomous district of Khanty-Mansi / Yugra located Nizhnevartovsk linked to the Russian road network. The nearest train station is also located there. So far there is no fixed road connection to the southeast, in the direction of the Tomsk Oblast center.
history
The eponymous village Streschewoje (also Streschewaja ), located about eight kilometers southwest of today's city center and no longer existing , was built in the early 1930s as a settlement for exiles . The name is derived from the Russian word streschen for a deep place with a strong current in a river (also " stream line ").
In the mid-1960s, the construction of the Streschewoi oil workers' settlement began to supply exploration and production within a radius of 200 kilometers; The official foundation day is September 1st, 1966. In 1967 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement and in 1978 city rights.

economy
Thanks to the Sovetsko-Sosninskoye deposit, Streschewoi is the most important center of oil and gas production in Tomsk Oblast. The Tomskneft company located here is now part of the Rosneft and Gazprom Neft groups . From here a pipeline leads via Anhero-Sudschensk to the Kuznetsk Basin .
