Benedictine Abbey of Pradines

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Benedictine Abbey of Pradines is since 1818 a convent of Benedictine nuns in Pradines in the Loire department ( diocese of Saint-Etienne ) in France.

history

Thérèse de Bavoz , former nun of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Pierre-des-Terreaux in Lyon, which was dissolved in the French Revolution (today: Art Museum ), founded 1804 together with the clergyman Jean-François Magdinier (1750–1805) in the castle of Pradines (south-east of Roanne ) the nunnery of Saint-Coeur de Marie . The sisters, who had lived in Sainte-Agathe-en-Donzy since 1795 , had been joined by the Charles Sisters founded by Charles Démia since 1802 , but in 1818 they switched to the Benedictine rule and saw themselves as the continuation of the Lyons Abbey. Around 50 nuns live in the Abbaye Saint-Joseph et Saint-Pierre de Pradines (today's name). The abbey has been issuing a bulletin since 1993. Together with the foundations listed below (and the Abbey of Sainte-Croix in Saint-Benoît near Poitiers ), it is part of the Fédération du Cœur Immaculé de Marie (Federation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary), founded in 1953 .
