Benjamin Schöckel (born August 16, 1980 in Bad Neustadt an der Saale ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

societies

At the age of six, Schöckel began playing football at the DJK Leutershausen . In 1992 he moved to SV Sportfreunde Bad Neustadt, which he left after three successful years for Schweinfurt. After only one season he left 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 and in 1996 moved to the youth department of FC Bayern Munich .

With the B-Juniors he won after his first season with Bayern with the 3-0 victory over the B-Juniors from Werder Bremen on July 20, 1997 in Unterhaching, the German B-Juniors Championship and also the jump into the DFB selection succeeded. In the 2000/01 season he played 23 regional league games for the amateurs of FC Bayern Munich in the Regionalliga Süd . He made his debut on August 5, 2000 (2nd match day) in the 1: 4 defeat in the away game against VfB Stuttgart II with a substitution for Berkant Göktan in the 43rd minute.

From 2001 to 2003 he played for the regional division VfR Aalen before moving to the second division Energie Cottbus . In three seasons he completed 45 second division games and one Bundesliga game as a result of the promotion to the 2006/07 season . The inguinal operation carried out in 2002 caused pain in the following period and forced Schöckel to pause several times, so that several appearances in the top division were denied him, whereupon his contract with Energie Cottbus was not extended for the 2006/07 season.

For the 2007/08 season he moved to the second division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden , which he left after a disappointing season without a commitment despite a valid contract until 2009. In 2008/09 he joined VfR Aalen in the newly created 3rd division and became a regular player in the position of right full-back. On November 21, 2008, Petrik Sander , who had already trained Schöckel in Cottbus, became the club's coach. On April 7, 2009 (30th matchday) he suffered a severe bruise of his left knee in a 4: 3 win at home against Dynamo Dresden , had to be taken out of the game in the 84th minute and was canceled until further notice. At that time, he was already the tenth man in the Aalen squad who was unable to play due to an injury. Schöckel's injury then turned out to be severe cartilage damage in the knee and made it impossible to continue his career until the end. With the relegation of Aalen to the fourth-class Regionalliga Süd at the end of the season, his contract became ineffective, which ended Schöckel's career - also due to the ongoing injury.

National team

In 1997 Schöckel completed eight international matches for the U-16 national team . He played his first two international matches on April 1 and 3, respectively, in Pforzheim and Weinheim against Turkey (2: 2 and 0: 1). From April 28 to May 9, he was a member of the DFB squad that played for the European Championship in their own country . Schöckel played at the side of his club-mate Sebastian Backer both the three group games that were won without conceding a goal, as well as the following three up to the game for third place.
