Benjamin Teske (* 1983 in Aschaffenburg ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

In 2006 he began studying audiovisual media at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Berlin , where he also did his first directorial work, a short film entitled Try a Little Tenderness based on the template Un peu de tendresse by the French author Martin Page with Cosma Shiva Hagen and Adolfo Assor in turned the main roles. This film was nominated for the 2009 German Young Talent Award.

In the course of the plagiarism discussion about the work of Helene Hegemann , he discovered "striking similarities" between his short film Try a Little Tenderness and the short story Hegemann's The Mirroring of My Face in the Creation of the World, printed in Vice . His film was shown at the 2009 Max Ophüls Prize Festival in Saarbrücken , in which Hegemann also took part. In an email to the magazine, Hegemann asked for a dedication to Teske prior to publication. However, Vice did not comply with this request because at the time the significance of this dedication was not recognized. Hegemann saw her “bonds” as an homage to the film, which, however, did not prevent her from denying all guilt: “Someone is trying to jump on the bandwagon and profit from the agitation against me.” Benjamin Teske, on the other hand, only wants that - if at all - the original text from Martin Pages is recognized.

After Try a Little Tenderness he made the short film Rummel , which premiered at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival , and a. won the audience's Golden Rider at the Dresden Film Festival and was nominated for the 2011 German Young Talent Award.

From 2010 to 2012 he studied directing in the master’s degree in film at the Hamburg Media School , where he made the two short films Nachtbus and Standstill . His graduation film Fliehkraft with Sabin Tambrea in the leading role celebrated its world premiere in 2013 in the short film competition at the Max Ophüls Preis film festival in Saarbrücken and won the Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award for best short film in the same year .

Teske's first feature-length film, the road movie tragicomedy Strawberry Bubblegums produced by Desert Film , premiered in September 2016 as the opening film of the 23rd Oldenburg International Film Festival and gave the male lead actor André M. Hennicke the Seymour Cassel Award for best actor. Strawberry Bubblegums was screened at the 24th Hamburg Film Festival in October 2016 and, after being shown in the Babylon cinema in Berlin, had its television premiere on November 3, 2016 on NDR television .
