Bennett Valley AVA (or Bennett Valley American Viticultural Area, recognized since 2003) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California and is part of the supra-regional North Coast AVA and Sonoma Valley AVA . The area partially overlaps with the Sonoma Coast AVA and Sonoma Mountain AVA regions .
The wine-growing area is bounded in a semicircle by the Sonoma Mountains in the south, east and west . To the north of the area is the city of Santa Rosa . A cooling wind from the Pacific flows in from the southwest over the Crane Canyon , which lies between the Sonoma Mountains and Taylor Mountain , and thus creates a microclimate that is moderate for California.

The region was granted American Viticultural Area status on December 23, 2003 by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau . The driving force was the Matanzas Creek Winery .
Viticulture
Barbera , Cabernet Sauvignon , Cabernet Franc , Chardonnay , Grenache , Merlot , Pinot Noir , Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah are the most common grape varieties in the wine-growing region.
