Benny Rebel (* 13. August 1968 in Arak , Iran as Bahman Vafaeinejad ) is a German photographer and environmentalist . He became known for his photographs of wild animals, which were taken at an unusually short distance from the animals.

Life

Benny Rebel was born in Iran in 1968. He has lived in Germany since 1987. After completing his training as a precision mechanic and graduating from high school, he worked in a wide variety of industries until the passionate conservationist discovered photography and film production as an advertising medium for environmental protection projects.

To this day he has organized and successfully carried out numerous film, photo, nature conservation and adventure expeditions . Numerous trips and expeditions took him - sometimes several times - to many African countries such as South Africa , Namibia , Botswana , Zimbabwe , Zambia , Swaziland , Rwanda , Kenya and Uganda , but also to Iran and Turkey , India and Sri Lanka , where he traveled also Mexico , Cuba , Costa Rica , Ecuador , the Galapagos Archipelago , the Dominican Republic , the USA and some EU countries.

In 2004 Benny Rebel produced several multimedia shows. In 2005 the NDR produced a 60-minute documentary film about Benny Rebel and his work as an animal photographer and conservationist in South Africa . Since 2006, there have been numerous television appearances in NDR (including on the NDR Talk Show ), ZDF (including in the ZDF Mittagsmagazin ), ARD ( ttt - title, thesen, temperamente ), on Sat.1 breakfast television , and in programs on MDR , BR , WDR , RTL and ARTE . In 2007 Benny Rebel produced a documentary film about the extinction of the Bengal tiger in India. In the same year the film production Wilder Iran took place with nature shots in Iran.

Books

The first book by Rebel with the title Untamed was published in 2006 by Herbig-Verlag. The first edition sold out quickly. In 2007 Benny Rebel's second book, The Animals of Africa in 3D, was published by Terra Magica. It is the first book in the world that shows the animals of Africa in three dimensions . The artist's third book has been on the market since February 2010. The title of the book is My Wilderness Adventure - Experiences of an Animal Photographer . In it, Benny Rebel describes the exciting and often life-threatening adventures that lie behind his photographs. The book was published by Terra Magica Verlag. In December 2010 Benny Rebel publishes his fourth book, Image Design - Simple Paths to Better Images, in cooperation with EnjoyYourCamera.com . In this book, Rebel has clearly compiled all the important rules for image and color design and explained them in an easy-to-understand manner with corresponding sample photos. This work is a combination of the fundamental laws of image composition and the author's personal recommendations regarding the areas of application of the respective rules. In the spring of 2015 Benny Rebel published his fifth book with the title SAFARI . It is the most luxurious fine art book in the world. The large-format illustrated book is produced in a limited edition and from the finest materials and comes with numerous accessories.

Shows

Since February 2010 Benny Rebel has been on tour with his new live multimedia show My Adventure Wilderness - Experiences from an Animal Photographer . In it, Rebel describes the exciting and often life-threatening adventures that lie behind his photographs. The roughly two-hour show, which is composed of film recordings, exclusively produced music, 2D and 3D photos, is presented live by Benny Rebel.

Awards

In 2002, Benny Rebel was voted “Photographer of the Year” by the readers of Foto Magazin . In 2002 and 2003 he was named the “world's best nature photographer” twice in a row at the world's largest photo competition “Austrian Super Circuit”. Numerous other awards, medals and certificates from various international competitions followed.
