Benzoguanamine can be obtained by reacting benzonitrile with dicyandiamide in the presence of sodium and liquid ammonia or of potassium hydroxide and methyl glycol .

Benzoguanamine is a flammable, hardly flammable, crystalline, white, odorless solid that is very sparingly soluble in water and decomposes at temperatures above 340 ° C.

use

Benzoguanamine is used as a modifying reagent for or in the manufacture of melamine resins as well as in the manufacture of pesticides, dyes and pharmaceuticals.
