Bernard César Augustin Barsi (born August 14, 1942 in Nice , France ) is a French clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Monaco .

Life

Bernard Barsi was ordained a priest on June 28, 1969 . After activities in pastoral care from 1969 to 1991, he was Vicar General in Nice from 1991 to 2000 ; from 1997 to 1998 also administrator of the diocese .

Pope John Paul II appointed him 12th Bishop and 3rd Archbishop of Monaco on May 16, 2000 . He was ordained episcopal on October 8th of the same year by the Bishop of Nice, Jean Bonfils SMA ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Rennes , François Saint-Macary , and his predecessor Joseph-Marie Sardou TD .

He was a member of the Committee on Catechesis and Catechumenate of the French Episcopal Conference and chaplain of the Brotherhood of Penitents ( Confréries de pénitents ). He is the Grand Prior of the Monaco Lieutenancy of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

He chaired the funeral service for Prince Rainier III. and in 2011 the wedding of Prince Albert II and Charlene Wittstock in the palace courtyard.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on January 21, 2020.
