Bernard Joseph McLaughlin (born November 19, 1912 in Buffalo , New York , † January 5, 2015 in Kenmore , New York) was auxiliary bishop in Buffalo .

Life

Bernard McLaughlin entered the newly formed seminary in Buffalo in 1925 . After studying at the Pontifical College Urbanum in Rome , he received in the December 21, 1935 Lateran Basilica , the ordination . In 1936 he returned to the Buffalo Diocese. After pastoral work at St. Joseph's Cathedral in Buffalo, he entered the service of the ordinariate in 1942 and became secretary of the diocesan court. In 1946 he became assistant to the chancellor, later vice chancellor and on December 16, 1953 to the Cancellarius Curiae . He was also active as a pastor in the parishes of Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Buffalo, Blessed Sacrament in Kenmore and St. John the Baptist in Kenmore.

On April 6, 1950, Pope Pius XII awarded him . the honorary title of Supreme Chamberlain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). Pope Paul VI awarded him the title of Apostolic Protonotary on December 4, 1967 . On September 14, 1968 he was invested in the New York St. Patrick's Cathedral by Grand Prior Terence Cooke , Archbishop of New York, in the order of knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

In the diocese of Buffalo he became a member of the diocesan consulta and vicar general as well as a lawyer at the diocesan court and secretary of the diocesan synod. He became professor of work ethics at Diocesan Labor Management College . McLaughlin was chaplain of the Catholic Work for the Blind.

On December 28, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him . as titular bishop of Motula and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Buffalo. He received his episcopal ordination from Pope Paul VI. personally on January 6, 1969 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Sergio Pignedoli and Ernesto Civardi .

In 1988 his resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II .

As Auxiliary Bishop emeritus he continued to work at confirmations in his diocese and took on representative tasks. He died in early 2015 at the age of 102.
