Bernardino Rivera Álvarez

Bernardino Rivera Álvarez OFM (born January 31, 1925 in Panacachi, Chayanta , Bolivia , † July 12, 2010 ) was auxiliary bishop in Potosí in Bolivia.

Life

Bernardino Rivera Álvarez joined in 1938 the Congregation of the Franciscan in and completed his novitiate 1943-44 in the monastery of Tarija . He took his first religious vows on September 29, 1944. He studied philosophy and theology in the Franciscan seminary in San Antonio de Padua, Argentina . Álvarez made solemn vows on January 1, 1948, and was ordained a priest on December 20, 1952 by Tomás Aspe OFM, Bishop of Cochabamba . After his ordination he was active in pastoral care in Potosí. In 1961 he became superior of the San Antonio de Padua monastery.

Pope Paul VI appointed him in 1976 titular bishop of Mutugenna and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Potosí . The episcopal ordination donated to him on January 16, 1977 Archbishop Giuseppe Laigueglia , Apostolic Nuncio in Bolivia. Co- consecrators were Bernardo Fey Schneider CSsR , Bishop of Potosí, and Giovanni Décimo Pellegrini OFM, Apostolic Vicar of Cuevo .

On April 25, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
