Bernd Irlenborn

Bernd Irlenborn (born October 19, 1963 in Zell (Mosel) ) is a German philosopher and professor for the history of philosophy and theological propaedeutics at the Paderborn Theological Faculty .

Life

Bernd Irlenborn studied communication design at the Trier University of Applied Sciences and philosophy and Catholic theology at the universities of Bonn , Cologne and Frankfurt am Main . In 1999 he received his doctorate in philosophy at the University of Wuppertal and in 2002 in Catholic theology at the University of Bonn.

In 2005 he was appointed to the chair for the history of philosophy and theological propaedeutics at the Theological Faculty in Paderborn . From 2007 to 2009 Irlenborn was the rector of this university.

In 2009/2010 he was visiting professor at Blackfriars Hall at Oxford University and at the Center for Philosophy of Religion at the University of Notre Dame ( USA ). In 2013/2014 he was a “Visiting Research Fellow” at St John's College, University of Oxford .

Act

A research focus of Irlenborn is the philosophy of religion, especially in its analytical tradition. Regarding the determination of religious plurality from a philosophical point of view, he advocates an epistemic inclusivism . Further research topics are the relationship between philosophical relativism and Christian claims to truth, Richard Schaeffler's transcendental philosophy of religion and the importance of religious beliefs in the secular state.
