Josef Meyer zu Schlochtern

Josef Meyer zu Schlochtern (born June 15, 1950 in Laer ) is a German Roman Catholic priest , theologian as well as professor and former rector of the theological faculty in Paderborn .

Life

Josef Meyer zu Schlochtern studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen and at Allen Hall Seminary , the seminary of the church province of Westminster in London, at St Edmund's College in Ware , at the University of Regensburg and at the Westphalian Wilhelms- University of Munster . In 1978 he was at the University of Regensburg doctor of theology doctorate . In 1980 he received the sacrament of ordination and then worked as a parish pastor in Osnabrück. From 1984 he worked as clergyman rector and advisor in the Catholic Social Academy of the Diocese of Osnabrück, the Ludwig Windthorst House in Lingen . In 1991 he completed his habilitation at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

In 1992 he accepted a professorship for fundamental theology , comparative religious studies and denominational studies at the Philosophical-Theological University in Paderborn . Josef Meyer zu Schlochtern was repeatedly rector of the Theological Faculty of Paderborn (1998-2000; 2002-2003; 2013-2015).

A research focus of Meyer zu Schlochtern is the relationship between aesthetic and religious experiences with special consideration of the effect of contemporary works of art in sacred spaces.

Since 1998 he has been co-editor of the series “Paderborn Theological Studies”. Josef Meyer von Schlochtern is a member of the Görres Society .
