Bernd Klotz (born September 8, 1958 in Pforzheim ) is a former German football player and coach .
Career
The striker, who grew up in the youth of his home club 1. FC Dürrn in the Pforzheim football district - he was also a member of the youth team of the Badischer Fußballverband under association coach Pál Csernai - moved to the youth department of VfB Stuttgart in 1974. Under coach Oskar Hartl , he reached the final of the German championship twice with the Swabian A-youth team . He won this in 1975 against FC Schalke 04 and lost it in 1977 to MSV Duisburg . His higher-class career finally began with the amateurs of VfB Stuttgart in the 1st amateur league North Württemberg . For the 1978/79 season he moved to the licensed team. He played his first Bundesliga game on November 4, 1978, when he was substituted on for Walter Kelsch in the 77th minute of the game against Werder Bremen on matchday 12 . Just two minutes later he scored his first Bundesliga goal with a header after preparatory work by Hansi Müller to make it 1-1. At the end of the season, in which Klotz was used six more times, the Swabians became German runners-up. In the period that followed, Klotz played more, but only became a regular at Walter Kelsch's side in the 1980/81 season. In the summer of 1981 he moved to Borussia Dortmund . Klotz was a regular player there from the start and was sixth with BVB in his first season. This placement enabled Borussia to participate in the UEFA Cup . There they failed in the first round to the Glasgow Rangers , but reached the semi-finals in the national cup and lost there against Fortuna Cologne . In the league, he was seventh with BVB - despite an 11-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld - and thus narrowly missed another qualification for the UEFA Cup. This was clearly missed in the following season when he was thirteenth in the table and Klotz - who was Borussia's top goalscorer with Erdal Keser this season - left the club. Klotz switched to SV Waldhof Mannheim on Alsenweg and stayed there for three years. After winning the relegation against SV Darmstadt 98 and remaining in the Bundesliga , he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2nd Bundesliga . On the Lower Rhine, he was promptly promoted to the first division. He then played for Fortuna in the Bundesliga for two years before ending his active career at Fortuna Cologne.
