Bernd Potthast (born December 16, 1922 ; † July 23, 2008 in Cologne - Rodenkirchen ) was a German business lawyer and local politician .

Life

Bernd Potthast was one of four children from the marriage of Bruno Potthast and Hilde geb. Weimann. He was a soldier in World War II and was seriously wounded. In 1945 he began studying law at the University of Marburg , where he also the doctor of law doctorate was.

He passed his assessor exam in 1952 and took over his father's business law firm in Cologne.

Potthast was also Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Cologne from 1971 to 2003 . He was the deputy chairman of the board of the Diocesan Caritas Association for the Archdiocese of Cologne eV He was a member of the diocesan church tax council from 1971 to 1995. He represented the Archdiocese of Cologne on the board of the diocesan aid organization Misereor and was a member of the administrative board, most recently as chairman. He was the founder of the Brazilian Aid Bishop Pünder and was involved in the development of the Coroatá diocese for almost thirty years . He was also represented in several non-profit foundations as an administrative and supervisory board. From 1967 to 2003 he was Vice President of the German Association of the Holy Land ; he was the initiator of the construction of the pilgrim house in Tabgha on the Sea of ​​Galilee .
