Reinhard Pünder , also Dom Reinaldo , (born January 12, 1939 in Berlin ; † January 16, 2011 in Coroatá ) was a German clergyman and bishop of Coroatá in Brazil .

Reinhard Pünder was the youngest of eight children from the marriage of the lawyer Werner Pünder and his wife Hedwig, b. Lentze.

His uncle was Hermann Pünder , who was married to Magda, née Statz and sister of Leo Statz (1898–1943) and cousin of Erich Klausener . Tilman was his nephew, Hermann Pünder his great-nephew.

Life

From the age of four he grew up in Endorf im Chiemgau. He attended the Humanist High School in Rosenheim and the Benedictine High School in Ettal , where he graduated from high school in 1958. Since the return of the father from Soviet captivity and subsequent GDR imprisonment in 1953, the family lived in Frankfurt am Main . There Reinhard Pünder studied philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen for two years in preparation for the priesthood in the Diocese of Limburg .

From 1960 to 1968, during the Second Vatican Council , he studied Catholic theology with a doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University . On 10 October 1964 he received by Cardinal Julius Döpfner the priesthood . From 1969 to 1972 he was chaplain in the Diocese of Limburg (Bad Schwalbach and Dreifaltigkeit / Wiesbaden). From 1972 Pünder, a member of the Focolare Movement , worked as a Fidei Donum priest in Palmares in the state of Pernambuco in northeast Brazil, and later also Vicar General of the Diocese of Palmares .

On May 14, 1978 Reinhard Pünder was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed first bishop of the new Coroatá diocese in Maranhão / Brazil. The episcopal consecration donated him on July 29, 1978 in Palmares the local bishop Acácio Rodrigues Alves ; Co- consecrators were João José da Mota e Albuquerque , Archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão , and Gerhard Pieschl , Auxiliary Bishop in Limburg. His motto was "Seek the kingdom of God first." On August 6, 1978 Reinhard Pünder was introduced to the office as the first bishop of the diocese.

On April 10, 2010 he introduced Dom Sebastião Bandeira Coêlho as coadjutor bishop of Coroatá in his office.

In August 2009, doctors diagnosed Reinhard Pünder with pancreatic cancer, from the consequences of which he died on January 16, 2011. He was buried in the Catedral Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Coroatá.
