Bernd Rolfes

Bernd Rolfes (* 1957 in Haselünne ) is a German economist .

academic career

Rolfes graduated from high school in Handrup in 1975 . In the same year he received a teaching position from the University of Osnabrück . In 1981 he received his degree in business administration and a teaching position at the Westphalian Wilhelms University . He received his doctorate in 1985 with the dissertation The control of interest rate risks in credit institutions, also at the Westphalian Wilhelms University, where he was awarded a doctorate in economics and social sciences . In the same year Rolfes followed a call to the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz , where he received a teaching position. 1986 to 1990 he received a scholarship from the German Research Foundation . He also received his habilitation in 1990 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University.

Rolfes has held a professorship for banks and corporate finance since 1991 and is the leading representative of business administration at the University of Duisburg-Essen . In 1992 Rolfes was appointed chairman of the business administration working group at the University of Duisburg.

In 1992, Bernd Rolfes founded the management consultancy zeb.rolfes.schierenbeck.associates in Münster , together with Henner Schierenbeck , who also worked at the Westphalian Wilhelms University, under the name Center for Income-Oriented Bank Management (abbreviated zeb ) , which specializes in advising companies specialized in the financial services industry.

In 1993, Rolfes became a member of the accounting working group of the credit institutions of the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration . From 2001 to 2010 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Gerhard Mercator University .

Rolfes is also the director of the European Center for Financial Services . He also wrote newspaper articles for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , the Handelsblatt , Die Welt and the Börsen-Zeitung .

Research priorities

Rolfe's research focuses on corporate management, risk controlling , banking supervision , structural change, strategic orientation in the financial services business, corporate banking as well as retail and private banking .

Private

Rolfes is a passionate pianist who plays in the professor's band The Economix & Friends , which he founded, alongside Jörg Becker , Gottfried Vossen , Karl-Hans Hartwig , Frank Krimphove , Johannes Schwanitz and Axel Winkelmann . With good contacts in the German music scene, Rolfes performed on July 15, 2011 at the AaSeerenaden am Aasee in Münster with the Klaus Lage Band .
