Bernd Schröder (theologian)

Bernd Schröder (* 1965 in Bad Oeynhausen ) is a German Protestant theologian and religious educator . From 2001 to 2011 he was Professor of Religious Education at Saarland University and has been Professor of Practical Theology with a focus on religious education and educational research at the Theological Faculty of Georg-August-Universität Göttingen since 2011 .

biography

Bernd Schröder studied Protestant theology from 1984 to 1990 at the Universities of Münster , Heidelberg , Jerusalem and Berlin, and from 1987 to 1992 Jewish Studies at the last two places . From 1992 to 1995 Schröder completed the vicariate in the Evangelical Church of Westphalia . Subsequently, he was a research assistant to Christian Grethlein until 2001 , initially at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg until 1997 , then at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. During this time Schröder also gave confirmation classes on a voluntary basis (in Halle) and part-time Protestant religion classes (in Münster).

Schröder's research focuses on the areas of comparative religious education, the theory of (Christian) religious school life, historical religious education, the systematic basic questions of practical theology and the relationship between Christian-Jewish dialogue and practical theology or religious education.

In addition, Schröder has been a representative of the Göttingen Graduate School for the Humanities since 2013 and has been the chairman of “Studium in Israel” since 2014 .
