Bernd Wolfgang Lindemann

Bernd Wolfgang Lindemann (born February 17, 1951 in Düsseldorf ) is a German art historian .

Life

Lindemann studied art history, history and classical archeology at the universities of Stuttgart , Bonn , Vienna and Kiel . In 1981 he received his doctorate from the University of Kiel. From 1981 to 1990 he worked as a research assistant at the Free University of Berlin , where he received his habilitation in 1992 . From 1990 he then worked as curator at the Berlin Gemäldegalerie .

In October 1994, Lindemannan moved to the Kunstmuseum Basel as curator of the Old Masters Department, and from 1999 he was also deputy director there. At the same time, he was re- qualified at the University of Basel in 1995 , which appointed him adjunct professor in 2001 .

On June 1, 2004, Lindemannan moved back to Berlin, where he succeeded Jan Kelch as director of the painting collection. In 2007 he also became director of the sculpture collection and the Museum of Byzantine Art . He has been an honorary professor of art history at the Free University of Berlin since the 2004/05 winter semester . He retired in July 2016.
