Bernhard Elias Baumgartner

Bernhard Elias Baumgartner (born August 27, 1874 in Cham ; † March 2, 1946 there ; Catholic , entitled to live in Cham) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Bernhard Elias Baumgartner was born on August 27, 1874 as the son of the CVP politician Moritz Baumgartner in Cham. After attending high school in Zug , he completed a law degree in Freiburg , Munich , Leipzig , Strasbourg and Berlin . As a result, Bernhard Elias Baumgartner briefly headed a law firm in Zurich before he was an interrogator in Zug from 1906 to 1913.

The member of the FDP was from 1908 to 1910 in the local council (executive) and from 1911 to 1946 mayor of Cham. From 1911 to 1946 Baumgartner was a member of the Zug Cantonal Council , which he chaired in 1917/18 and 1925/26. From 1913 to 1938 he was the full-time police director of the Canton of Zug. Bernhard Elias Baumgartner, who remained unmarried, died on March 2, 1946 at the age of 72 in Cham.

He was a liberal politician from a conservative family who headed his community in difficult times, such as during the world wars or the global economic crisis with the closure of the Cham milk factory.
