Bernhard IV of Angelach-Angelach (* 1532 ; † June 21, 1599 ) was an imperial knight in the knightly canton of Kraichgau from the family of the Lords of Angelach . From 1594 to 1598 he was Grand Bailli of the Order of St. John. In 1598 he was appointed Grand Prior of the Order of St. John in Germany and was Prince of the Kingdom of Heitersheim .

Bernhard IV. Was the son of Bernhard III. von Angelach-Angelach and Magdalena von Sternenfels . His brothers were Philip IV († 1581) and George III. In his childhood, like his brothers, he was under the tutelage of Christoph Landschad von Steinach and Philipp von Sternenfels .

Life and career

Bernhard IV. Was in Sinsheim Abbey in 1549 , where the family had good connections. From 1472 to 1497 Michael von Angelach, a relative, was an abbot in the collegiate monastery . For 1551 we have received the evocation of Bernhard for the Order of St. John . In 1558 he was named as the representative of the large bailey responsible for the fortifications on Malta . He rose further in the hierarchy of the Order of St. John and was Johanniter Komtur in Breisach am Rhein in 1561 , in Leuggern in 1562 and in Dorlisheim in Alsace in 1562 . In 1570 he was ordered to Malta by the Johanniter Grand Master Pierre de Monte to become deputy to Adam von Schwalbach. In 1571 he was named as Johanniter-Oberrezeptor in Germany, afterwards he became titular Johanniter prior in Denmark from 1581 , 1583 Komtur in Überlingen , 1589 Komtur in Rottweil . On March 15, 1594 he was appointed Großbailli, responsible for the fortress works on Malta, and in March 1598 Grand Prior of Germany with his seat in Heitersheim , as well as Prince von Heitersheim . With this he had received the rank of imperial prince shortly before his death .
