Bernhard Joachim von Mörner († December 22, 1741 in Rendsburg ) was a Danish general of the cavalry .

Life

origin

Bernhard Joachim was a member of the Brandenburg noble family von Mörner . His parents were the Brandenburg colonel sergeant Kurt Ehrentreich von Mörner (1647–1687) and Freiin Barbara Gertrud von der Goltz († 1719).

Career

Mörner came into Danish service in 1701 as a lieutenant colonel with the Dragoons . In 1706 he was in the 2nd Jutland Cavalry Regiment and, after he had already received the character of colonel in 1708 , in 1709 with the royal guard on horseback. For three years he was regimental commander of the Guard. He was promoted to brigadier in 1710 , major general in 1713 and lieutenant general in 1717 . Mörner became a Knight of the Dannebrog Order on March 21, 1719 . During the Great Northern War he took part in the Battle of Helsingborg and the Battle of Gadebusch , where he was badly wounded. He was also in the field for the Danes from 1717 to 1718 on the Norwegian theater of war.

In 1734 Mörner was promoted to general of the cavalry and was appointed commander of a corps of 6,000 men. Since he had earned an excellent reputation as an energetic and brave soldier in the War of the Spanish Succession and in the Northern War, Mörner was requested by the Emperor for the War of the Polish Succession and made available by Denmark. He operated on the Rhine from 1734 to 1735 , but failed to take any offensive measures and was generally weak in making decisions. This led to general resentment among subordinate officers, so that his deputy commander, Friderich Ehrenfried Amthor, wrote to the Minister of War in writing. As a result, Mörner and his son said goodbye in 1738 .

family

Mörner married Christiane Elisabeth von Tritzschler in Rendsburg in 1718. The marriage resulted in two sons.
