Ordained on December 18, 1640, he was introduced to the St. Petri Church in Cölln on December 26 of the same year . Only one year later, in 1641, he became pastor at the Nikolai Church in Prenzlau.

Kohlreif married Catharina Paschen on August 23, 1640 in Berlin - she married his successor Peter Thesendorf in Prenzlau . Kohlreif died in Prenzlau on May 11, 1646.

His son Matthias Erasmus Kohlreif (1641–1705) became vice rector of the Latin school in Prenzlau in 1664 and rector in Neubrandenburg in 1669. In 1674 he became pastor in Strelitz and in 1701 deputy superintendent in Neubrandenburg . He was court preacher in Güstrow and from 1701 in Strelitz before he died on February 4, 1705 in Hinrichshagen.
