Bernhard Mylius

Theodor Bernhard Reinhold Mylius (born February 6, 1838 in Verchesar ; † July 19, 1919 in Berlin ) was a German architect and construction clerk who worked in the municipal building administration of the city of Berlin in the late 19th century, where he worked for city planning officer Hermann Blankenstein was involved in the planning and construction of school buildings.

Live and act

Bernhard Mylius completed a degree in civil engineering and passed the second state examination on May 21, 1870. Mylius then stayed in Berlin, living in house Elisabeth-Ufer 30 in 1876 (today Leuschnerdamm and Erkelenzdamm). In 1877 at the latest, he got a job as a town planning inspector, especially at a time of great population growth. Mylius worked with Hermann Blankenstein and was mainly involved in the construction of community schools with the associated gyms and teachers' houses. In 1878 he moved privately to Engel-Ufer 16 (today Engeldamm). In 1887 he finally moved to Kesselstrasse 34 (today Habersaathstrasse) in Berlin-Mitte .

In close cooperation with Blankenstein, he was involved in the design and implementation of the following school ensembles, which have been preserved and are under monument protection:

  • 1873–1874: Teachers' residence of the 54th community school in Schlesische Strasse, Berlin-Kreuzberg
  • 1880–1881: 87th and 98th community school with the rector's house on Marchlewskistraße

Mylius moved twice more before 1900 - first to Scharnhorststrasse 7, then to Scharnhorststrasse 9, Berlin-Mitte. He stayed here with his family in retirement until his death.

Mylius was promoted to municipal building officer and retired in 1906 at the latest.

In 1898 Mylius was given the honorary title of Royal Baurath , and in 1906 his services were awarded the Royal Crown Order III. Appreciated class .
