reception

In 1995, the political scientist Manfred Funke reviewed the book Left and Right Terrorism in the Federal Republic of Germany 1970 to the present day for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) : “Rabert analyzes and assesses the actions of terrorism using the standard of the free democratic basic order. A liberal-conservative perspective is sometimes noticeable. ”He also wrote:“ Rabert's analysis of the criminal energies of right-wing and left-wing extremism shows, with the finest, tightly assembled specimen sections, the long development of a hitherto unsuccessful struggle against this republic. [...] Many, generally inaccessible dossiers and investigation results were incorporated into the study. In the opinion of the reviewer, it offers the greatest density of self-testimonies from the terrorism scene. [...] never before have the ideology of the RAF, its rise and erosion been presented in such a filigree, sensitive way. [...] the author [creates] the most profound analysis of the roots, forms of action and networks of terrorism as the highest level of intensity of extremism. About two thousand footnotes and a forty-page apparatus testify [...] the operational use of a critical rationalism that takes itself, the cause, the reader and the responsibility for our res publica seriously.
