Bernhard Schulz (writer)

Bernhard Schulz (born April 22, 1913 in Lindlar ; † March 24, 2003 in Osnabrück ), also known by his newspaper abbreviation bezet , was a German journalist and writer . There is a risk of confusion with the culture editor of the same name for the Berliner Tagesspiegel .

Life

Bernhard Schulz, son of a Sparkasse employee, grew up in a village in the Oberbergisches Land . Early on, he read next to Karl May and Ludwig Ganghofer also Fontane and Tolstoy . After attending the dwarf school in Lindlar, Schulz came to the Paritätische Höhere Lehranstalt in Engelskirchen and the Humanist Gymnasium in Wipperfürth .

His career aspiration was to become a journalist. In Bergisch Gladbach he volunteered at the Rheinisch Bergische Zeitung . He then worked as an editor, freelance journalist and lecturer in Eckernförde , Hanover and Berlin .

After eight years of military service, war and imprisonment, he returned to Osnabrück , the original home of the family, where he was the features editor of the Neue Tagespost until retirement . At the same time he also wrote for other newspapers such as Die Welt . He published many short stories and 24 books.

He was friends with the Hamburg literary agent Werner Lüning. His work is shaped by the experiences of the Second World War , which he went through from beginning to end. He repeatedly reports on events on the western and eastern fronts , for example in the longer story The Crows of Maklaki , which is based on an actual incident. This story spread in a Russian translation in Russia and made the author famous there too.
