Bernhard vertigo
Bernhard Schwindel (born July 12, 1787 in Neudörfl , † December 9, 1856 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Cistercian and abbot .
life and work
Joseph Schwindel attended schools in Sopron and Szombathely . In 1805 he entered the Neukloster Abbey and took the religious name Bernhard . He studied theology at Heiligenkreuz Abbey , made his solemn profession in 1808 and was ordained a priest in 1810. Then he taught at the monastery high school until 1830. From 1830 to 1839 he was the parish administrator in Sankt Lorenzen am Steinfelde (today: part of Ternitz ).
Schwindel was abbot of Neukloster Abbey from 1839 until his death. He developed a great deal of activity in many areas of intellectual and social life (e.g. in beekeeping ), but his economic management maneuvered the monastery into such a difficult situation that his successor, Abbot Benedikt Steiger , after unsuccessful attempts at renovation in 1879, tried to integrate the monastery into the Heiligenkreuz Abbey had to ask.
