Life

In the North German Margrave War in 1315, Bernhard sided with his relative Count Nikolaus von Gützkow on the side of Witzlaw von Rügen and was also one of the signatories of the Peace of Templin in 1317 . When peace was made, the two counts were partisans of Eric of Denmark .

Count Gerhard III. On June 1st, 1319, von Holstein agreed to a vengeance campaign against Dithmarschen because of the murder of Count Adolf VI with Heinrich II. von Mecklenburg and one of the Counts von Gützkow at the Wismar farm conference . von Holstein in 1315. It is documented that Bernhard took part in the campaign and that a Count von Gützkow fell on September 7, 1319 with most of the force. It is therefore assumed that Bernhard was the one who negotiated in Wismar and died in the Battle of Wöhrden .

About six months later, Count Bernhard was testified to be dead, because on April 21, 1320 Count Johann, Nikolaus and Johann von Gützkow left half of the village of Hanshagen , along with the two Untermühlen, to members of the Greifswald bourgeois family von Krebsow for 640 Mark Wendisch Landhufen and some cottages, among other things, to cover the debts of her recently deceased cousin Count Bernhard von Gützkow.

Regarding family integration, there is agreement in research that Bernhard was a descendant, i.e. son or grandson of Count Jaczo II von Gützkow and Cecislawa von Putbus . Furthermore, the authors of the 20th century in particular assume that Countess Margarethe von Gützkow, who was married to the Danish Reichsdrost Laurentz Jonsson Panter, was his sister. No wife or children of Bernhard are known.
