Bernie Ford

Bernie Ford (actually Bernard William Ford; born August 3, 1952 in Woking ) is a former British long-distance runner .

At the World Cross Country Championships in 1973 in Waregem, he started 86th for England .

In 1974 he was eleventh at the Cross Country World Championships in Monza and won silver with the English team. At the European Athletics Championships in Rome he was tenth over 10,000 m . At the Cross Country World Championships in 1975 in Rabat, he finished 37th and again won silver with the English team.

In 1976 he won bronze at the Cross Country World Championships in Chepstow and won with the English team. At the Olympic Games in Montreal, he was eighth in the 10,000 m .

At the World Cross Country Championship in Düsseldorf in 1977 he came in fifth place and won silver in the team classification, in 1978 in Glasgow he came in 62nd place, and in 1979 in Limerick he came in 22nd place and won with the English team.

On his marathon debut in 1979, he was runner-up in the English Championships in 2:14:15 h. At the end of the year he was fourth in the Fukuoka Marathon in 2:10:51 h.

In 1980 he was tenth at the Cross Country World Championships in Paris and defended the title with the English team. At the Olympic Games in Moscow, he did not finish in the marathon .

At the World Cross Country Championship in Madrid in 1981 , he came in 76th place. In 1983 he won Roma - Ostia and in 1984 the Romatona Marathon in Rome. In 1985 he won the Fleet Half Marathon and finished third in the Great North Run .

In 1976 and 1978 he became English cross-country champion .
