Bernie Hamilton

Bernard "Bernie" Hamilton (born June 12, 1928 in Los Angeles , California , † December 30, 2008 in Los Angeles, California) was an American film actor and music producer .

Life

Bernie Hamilton grew up with five brothers and a sister, among which include the jazz - drummer and composer Chico Hamilton was. He ran away from home when he was a teenager. At Oakland Technical High School in Oakland , California he played on the football team and developed his interest in acting.

With his height of 1.80 meters, Hamilton has been involved in smaller roles in the film since the early 1950s and only became known with the film Ruf nicht zu Laut (1964). In total, he played in more than 60 films and TV series. Hamilton is best known to German audiences in the role of Captain Dobey in the Starsky & Hutch police series from the 1970s.

Bernie Hamilton also worked in the music business for 20 years. He founded the label “Chocolate Snowman” and mainly produced R&B , gospel and soul albums .

Hamilton died of cardiac arrest at the age of 80 . He was married to Maxine King until the divorce, with whom he had two children, daughter Candy and son Roul.
