Bert Even

Bert Even , actually Paul Hubert Even , (born March 14, 1925 in Krefeld ; † March 12, 2016 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and President of the Federal Office of Administration .

Life and work

Even first attended elementary school and secondary school in Krefeld. After his family moved to Düsseldorf , he attended the local high school from 1938, where he passed his Abitur in 1943. During National Socialism , he was involved in the Roman Catholic youth movement. After graduating from high school, he took part in the Second World War until the end of the war, where he was wounded twice and was taken prisoner towards the end of the war.

Even in 1945, Even began studying law at the University of Cologne . In 1947 he joined the academic Catholic student association Unitas -Düsseldorf. After the first state examination in 1949, he received his doctorate in Cologne in 1951 with a thesis on the right of resistance of citizens . After the major state law examination in 1953, he joined the Düsseldorf Regional Council as a government assessor in 1954 .

In 1969 Even became President of the Federal Administration Office. In 1985 he also took over the presidency of the Federal Compensation Office in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe . He held both offices until his retirement in 1990.

Political party

Even joined the CDU and the Junge Union in 1946 . In the latter, Even was state chairman in the Rhineland from 1949 to 1962 and federal chairman from 1961 to 1963, after having been deputy national chairman since 1955. From 1956 to 1969 he was a member of the federal party committee and the federal executive committee of the CDU.

Even he was from 1957 to 1969 member of the German Bundestag and there from 1965 to 1969 deputy chairman of the interior committee . From April 18, 1967 until he left parliament, Even was a member of the executive committee of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group as chairman of the parliamentary group working group on general and legal issues . He represented the constituency of Düren in parliament.
