The Berthold Oak (2017)

The Berthold Oak is a natural monument in the Kellerwald-Edersee Nature Park , where several old oaks are named after deserving foresters .

The striking solitaire kingdom, designated as a natural monument in 1985, is located in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in the area of the Wildunger district Reinhardshausen at 425 m altitude approx. 1.6 km northeast of Hundsdorf , at the edge of the forest about 40 m southwest of the confluence of the district road K 43 on the federal road 253 . The tree is named after the most committed forester Heinrich Berthold, who from 1938 to 1973 in the forest district had Hundsdorf.

The tree seemed to be under very stress in 2017.

About 800 m south-southeast of Berthold oak is the areal natural monument Ochsenhude , a source stream with an alder swamp forest , a silted pond and an adjacent marsh area . Another 400 m to the southeast is the extensive natural monument Jägersburg , and 400 m south of it are three Süntel beeches, which have also been designated as natural monuments .
