The Bertolt-Brecht-Realschule , Staatliche Realschule Augsburg I, is a six-level Realschule in Augsburg named after Bertolt Brecht . The Realschule is a support school for canoeing and kayaking , with the Augsburg ice channel offering optimal training opportunities.

history

The school building in the Beethoven quarter was built in 1963. School operations were officially taken over by the Free State of Bavaria on October 21, 1965. Originally, the Bertolt-Brecht-Realschule was the “State Realschule for Boys I”.

Like the Heinrich von Buz secondary school, the school now accepts both girls and boys. Another five secondary schools in Augsburg taught exclusively for girls until 2008. There are no pure boys' secondary schools in the city. The 2008/2009 school year saw the addition of the Rudolf-Diesel-Realschule, run by a non-profit organization, which accepts girls and boys.

In 2008, new rooms were inaugurated and handed over to the Bertolt-Brecht-Realschule in connection with the “Open all-day schools ” program .

The buildings have been renovated since 2011 with the aim of saving energy. The renovation work began in 2010 and, in addition to the roof, is focusing on better thermal insulation of the building and a modern heating system. The roof of the school is now used to generate energy through a solar system .

A transmission mast from Deutsche Telekom was also installed on the roof .

Digitization was completed in the 2017/2018 school year. Each classroom was equipped with projectors , computers and document cameras.

Affing branch

The Affing - Bergen secondary school, approx. 20 km away, was a branch of the Bertolt Brecht secondary school from September 2010 to 2012. This unusual constellation arose from the conversion of the Affing-Bergen secondary school into a secondary school; the number of secondary school students no longer allowed a viable secondary school. The Affingen secondary school now goes to school in Aindling .

At the first information evening at the new school, there was a rush of interested parties, and more people than expected decided to attend the school in the branch office.

Lessons focus

Branches and elective subject groups

There are three branches at the school:

  • Mathematical-technical branch with a focus on mathematics and physics
  • Economics branch with a focus on business administration / accounting
  • Social, artistic, craft, foreign language branch with a focus on art or French

Base school for canoeing and kayaking

The school is the only support school in Bavaria that introduces young people to canoeing and kayaking. This is done according to the Bavarian cooperation model Sport nach 1 in school and club in cooperation with the Augsburger Kajak Verein e. V. on the route of the Augsburg Ice Canal. For this purpose, nine hours a week of physical education were first used in the 2008/2009 school year. The following year it was 17 hours a week, after which the number of hours was reduced to four.

The aim of the differentiated sports lessons is to discover and promote athletic talents, but at the same time to ensure the best possible success in school performance. In order to receive funding from the Free State, a permit for the establishment of a support school from the Ministry of Culture and the completion of differentiated sports lessons of at least four hours per week is required.

Special activities

24 hour lessons for Ethiopia

In 2010, students, teachers and parents raised over 2000 euros in donations for Ethiopia with an extraordinary project . A 9th grade was taught 24 hours at a time. Some of the 23 teachers taught in Ethiopian clothing and had linked their respective subject with Ethiopia. In physical education, for example, the students ran a half-hour marathon through the school building to let the students feel the way to school the Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie (long-distance runner and Olympic champion) had to cope with as a child. The campaign also received e-mail support from the Federal Minister for Education and Research Annette Schavan : “Hold on, you can do it!” The project proceeds were to be used to build a classroom and a well in Ethiopia.

Other actions

  • As part of the events for the Brecht Year 2004 in Augsburg, students of the institute performed the play “The Augsburger Chalk Circle” with marionettes in the official program.
  • At the German championships in computer writing 2011 in Stuttgart, four students from the Bertolt-Brecht-Realschule came first in the perfection writing (premier class). There were other outstanding performances from these participants as well.
