Bertrand Michael Buchmann (born November 29, 1949 in Vienna ) is an Austrian historian .

Life

Buchmann was born in Vienna in 1949 as the son of the academic painter and high school professor Lois Buchmann . From 1960 to 1968 he attended the Academic Gymnasium in the 1st district of Vienna ( Inner City ). After graduation he made 1968-69 military service in the Austrian army ; until 1990 he was a militia officer, most recently a captain .

From 1969 to 1975 he studied history and geography at the University of Vienna ( graduation in 1976) and passed the teaching examination. In 1975 he was with Erich Zöllner with the dissertation Der Wiener Linienwall. History and significance of the Dr. phil. PhD. Afterwards he was AHS professor at the Federal High School in Vienna's 16th district ( Ottakring ). In 1987 he completed his habilitation in the subject of Modern History of Austria with the work Austria and Europe from 1815 to 1830. Seen from the perspective of the Imperial and Royal Army .

In 1987 he became a university lecturer for modern history in Austria. He is also a lecturer at the Department for European Integration and Business Law at the University of Krems . His academic students include: a. Daniela Angetter , Walter Blasi , Helmut Neuhold and Tamara Scheer .

Since 1995 he has been editor of the series Contributions to the Modern History of Austria at Peter Lang Verlag .
