Bernard-Bertrand-Léon Pujo (born August 21, 1878 in Orignac , Hautes-Pyrénées , † September 14, 1964 in the 17th arrondissement , Paris ) was a French officer and military pilot , who was most recently General (Général d'armée aérienne) as well 1940 Minister of Aviation ( Ministre de l'Air ) .

Life

Officer training, officer and staff officer

Promotion to general and aviation minister

On January 20, 1929, Bertrand Pujo became Chief of the General Staff of Army Aviation (Chef d'état-major général de l'Aéronautique) and held this post until May 24, 1930, when Major General Henry Michaud took his place. In this application, he was promoted to major general (Général de division) on January 2, 1930 . He then became commander of the 2nd Air Division (2eme division aérienne) . On April 1, 1933, his rank was converted to Major General of the Air Force (Général de division aérienne) . On June 16, 1940, Bertrand Pujo was appointed Minister of Aviation (Ministre de l'Air) in the first Pétain cabinet. On July 16, 1939, he was promoted to General of the Air Force (Général d'armée aérienne) , with this promotion at the beginning of the Second World War was backdated on September 2, 1939. He held the offices of State Secretary for Aviation (Secretaire d'Etat à l'Air) and General Secretary for Air Defense in the subsequent second Pétain cabinet during the Vichy regime between July 12 and September 8, 1940 .

Pujo married Renée Pineau on December 27, 1916 and Cécile Henriette Jarre on November 26, 1928.
